Grandpa McPherson

Grandpa McPherson

The first time I met Grandpa McPherson was at their home in Moore.  Daddy and I had been dating for several months and one weekend we were both in Oklahoma City.  We went to a movie together and then afterward he brought me to his house to meet his parents.  I still remember walking into their living room meeting them for the first time.
Grandpa has always been kind and sweet to me, making me feel a part of the family.

There's so much to tell about Grandpa that I don't know where to begin.  I remember many family dinners at their house where we laughed a lot and Grandpa told lots of stories from his younger days.  Grandpa did not grow up with the easy life that you and I know.  Born in eastern Oklahoma in 1933 to Younce and Maurine McPherson, he was raised on a farm without electricity and running water.  He has a younger sister, Ruth, who now lives near Altus, Oklahoma.  From his youth, Grandpa learned to work hard.  His family grew vegetables, had hogs for meat and cows for milk.  Grandpa's father was a very kind, gentle, hard working man and his mother brought plenty of love and laughter to his family.  Do you remember your Great-Grandmother McPherson shooting the gun at Pecan Creek!  She had lots of stories to tell too!!

During his childhood years Grandpa spent a lot of time with his uncles.  He can tell you many lively stories about them!  Sometime during his childhood, two missionary women from Pennsylvania came to live near the McPherson family and started a small church in the farming community.  Not long after, grandpa's parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles heard the gospel of Jesus and made professions of faith.  Grandpa also became a follower of Christ when he was nine years old.  Grandpa can tell you all the ways their family life changed for the better after that time.

Grandpa married his high school sweetheart in 1955. In September they will celebrate 56 years together.
He became a father to David, Craig, Mark and Rebecca.  Wow, he must have had a very strong back to have those three wiggly rascals riding on him!

Grandpa loved enriching his grandchildren's lives with outdoor activities. In Delaware, Grandpa took Peter fishing at Carousel Farm and they brought home some fish!
Grandpa and Stephanie enjoying special moments together.
John enjoying a ride on Grandpa's shoulder.

When Grandpa bought land at Pecan Creek he was thinking of you...all of his grandchildren.  He wanted you to have a place outside of the city where you could play in the country.  He wanted you to learn to fish, shoot guns, enjoy nature, play in a big dirt pile, swing high in a big tire swing, drive a standard transmission, drive a jeep, drive a tractor, make a fire, ride go carts and pick pecans.  Grandpa accomplished his goal with his grandchildren, and now it's time to introduce his great-grandchildren to the joys of Pecan Creek.

 Wonderful memories at Pecan Creek!

Quotes from Grandpa McPherson

"Work hard and remember that many times there is a narrow margin that separates success from failure."

"Never stop learning.  Learn from the experiences of others by asking questions.  Never be too proud to admit you don't know.  Never be too proud to ask for help.  Never compromise your ethical behavior or integrity--which is easy to lose but difficult to regain."

"Whatever success and accomplishments I have achieved in my life I have to give credit to God, my wife, my parents, my teachers and mentors, and fellow employees who helped me and supported me in my life.  I wouldn't have amounted to much without all of them."
Happy Birthday-April 29th!
We Love You!!
