Cross Country

Those were the days of running...lot of running!
Jennifer was very fast!  She could really put on the speed (or kick) in the last yards of the race!
Jennifer was our first cross country runner.  She is posing in her cross-country uniform for Victoria HIgh School.  She initially went out for cross country to improve her soccer abilities.  She was strong and had hugh thigh muscles!

Here's Peter running for Kennett High School and he's the guy in the middle.  It looks like they're going to run into the pods, but really they were going in front of them and down the big hill.  Kennett was a great place for true cross county running since there were plenty of up and down hills in each course.

This is at the race on Rt. 1 at Nottingham Park (?)
  Peter was fast, really fast!

Sorry Stephanie!  Don't they look so tired and pitiful after all that running!
I could not find a picture of Stephanie running.  Stephanie had the most natural running ability of all our kids and was a very fast runner! When she ran she always made it look effortless!

More cross country pictures at KHS.
I couldn't find any pictures of Peter running at VHS.
Peter, when we're all together again, tell us again about the exciting district race on that very muddy course.

And then John surprised us by running cross country in Andover.
He was a very fast runner!  Daddy and I loved to watch everyone's exciting cross country races!!
This meet was in Wellington, Kansas.
Do you see John speeding through the middle of the pack!
Do you miss those days?

All our cross-country runners together at John's meet in Kansas.
I would like to see who is the fastest now!

Cross country running took a lot of endurance, preparation, practice, stretching and sweat.  The races were physically challenging!  There were plenty of competitors that were equally qualified.  We can apply many of those cross country principles to our present lives.  It's still important in school, our job or our relationships to understand there are ups and downs and challenges.  Sometimes it's really hard to get up the hill but we still must finish the race!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.  They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
1 Corinthians 9:24

I know that would be funny to see who wins a cross country race now that none of us work out anymore!

We were so fit and tan back then, wow!! I would definitely loose a cross country race, the last time I ran any length was April of 2010, the month I found out i was pregnant with Paul! I get winded walking up the stairs now, that's so bad!

John's hair in the last picture is impressive!
