February Firsts

The SanJacinto Monument
Where the Texas army defeated the Mexican army and won independence for Texas from Mexico.  The monument is patterned after the Washington Memorial but is taller.

First time to go to the monument and museum as an adult.

First time to ride a Segway and explore downtown Houston with my sister.
Houston's downtown skyline with our guide and others in our small group of seven.

Riding a Segway was easy and tons of fun!

The Hogg Palace in downtown Houston.  The Hogg family of Houston was wealthy due to finding oil on their plantation.  The father, James Hogg, became governor of Texas and he did have two sons and a daughter, named Ima.  Ima Hogg was a well loved philanthropist in Houston who died in 1975.  There was a rumor that she had a sister named, Ura, but that was not true.

Riding a Segway was so much fun, especially when navigating tight turns on the sidewalk.

Taking pictures was tricky because Segways don't do very well when you bump into another Segway or any other thing.  They will try to climb walls.

First time to drive my parents four hours north to Kansas City
 and back in one day.

First time to visit Patrick and Stephanie in their more spacious new home.

The first time to eat a meal in their home since they got married!
Stephanie and Patrick prepared a delicious lunch of Italian wedding soup, chive/cream cheese stuffed mushrooms and tomatoes and french bread. The meal was delicious!!

The bright sunroom and all the plants they are growing.
They are starting tomatoes and other plants to put out in the spring.

I'm sure Stephanie and Patrick will transform the yard into a green garden space so they won't have need of a grocery store!

Two little love birds sitting in a tree...

Happy Valentines's Day to all our little birds...
who flew out of our nest...

and their families!
