Grandma McPherson

The first time I knew anything about my future mother-in-law was in the fall of 1979.
It was a chilly Friday night in early October and it was OSU's football homecoming.
Daddy and I were on one of our first dates.
The tradition is to walk around and look at the fraternity and sorority house decorations and then walk over to the big bonfire and pep rally near the athletic center.  We enjoyed the evening walking around campus together and we talked together near the bonfire for a long time.  While there I asked daddy, "What is your mother like?"  He replied,
 "She's a great mother!"

Grandma McPherson was born in Hillsboro, Kansas on February 23, 1934.
She loved to sing even at a very young age. She came from a "singing" family.  Daddy said she always sang in the church choir and often sang solos, or duets.  At the age of seven she dedicated her life to Christ and has trusted Him in all things ever since.  About the same time, her daddy (your great-grandfather) left for military service in Africa, France, and Sicily in World War II.  She didn't see him for three years.  Her daddy was a Baptist pastor and they moved a lot including- Hillsboro, Kansas, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Ponca City and Stillwell, Oklahoma.  And you thought you moved a lot!

She has an older sister, Lucille and an older brother, Stanley.  Her senior year of high school she was Stillwell high school football queen.  Grandpa McPherson was the football captain, however, he did not escort her because he had a concussion earlier that season and was not actively playing.  Grandpa's best friend, Bill Guffey was her escort instead.
She graduated from Stillwell High School in 1952 and then attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma for three years.  She married her high school sweetheart in 1955 and then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma.  She graduated from OSU with her Elementary Education degree, minor in English, in 1957.
Nadine Faye Wall and Frank Alfred McPherson
were married in Lawton, OK,  September 1955.
This picture was taken the Christmas after they married.

They lived in Oxnard California, Patterson Louisiana and Morgan City Louisiana, before finally settling in Oklahoma City 37 years ago.

Grandma and Grandpa didn't wait long to start a family - 13 months after the wedding!
David was born in the fall of 1956, Craig, the fall of 1958 and Mark the fall of 1959.
Grandma McPherson was a beautiful wife and mother of three busy boys!

This photo was take in Mooreland, OK for a visit to Grandma's parent's. Grandma got her little girl, Rebecca, in 1962 and their family was complete.
Grandpa had to work long hours with Kerr McGee and was often away for extended times on offshore oil rigs. Like many spouses of oil field workers, she had the primary responsibility of raising the family.

Celebrating their 35th Wedding Anniversary in OKC.

I'm sure your Daddy had been teasing his mother about something!

Her favorite past time is talking to her children and grandchildren!

You won't find your Grandma swimming laps in the neighborhood pool or jogging in her Nike's, but you will find her worshipping the Lord each Sunday, in the prayer room every Monday morning, with a tender heart helping those in need, driving a sporty car, studying the stock market, serving on the Oklahoma Baptist University board, and being a vocal supporter of Oklahoma State University athletics.

Happy Birthday Nadine!
